[Manuscript]

[No earlier than 8 February 1975] * Brother,

I received the
beautiful copy of the music
of La Cubana, a delicate
piece, a unique music.
I got it from Schott, I guess.*

It is in the Music Museum *
that the Revolution has created.
My hugs to Fausto and ¿Yoko?
Write and send the record of the
music, please.*

Your closest brother,
Miguelito.

Text Constitution

  • "… febrero 3 1974 . Habana"This round stamp is placed on the picture of Brezhnev and Castro and is mostly illegible.

Commentary

  • "… earlier than 8 February 1975"This letter can be dated due to the similarity of its content with a letter dated 8 February 1975. Both in the letter and in this postcard Barnet informs Henze that he has received the music of La Cubana. Moreover, the information on the stamp suggests that this postcard was definitely mailed after Leonid Breschnew’s visit to Cuba from 28 January to 3 February 1974.
  • "… from Schott , I guess."Henze probably asked Schott to send Barnet the piano score of La Cubana, which was published in 1974.
  • "… is in the Music Museum"Barnet sent the piano score of La Cubana to the Music Museum. See Barnet’s letter on 8 February 1975.
  • "… record of the music, please." In another postcard, Barnet thanks Henze for sending him “records”. Henze probably sent him a record of La Cubana as well.
