Release: Version 7.0.0 – Project phase II starts with the correspondence Henze | Zechlin
On June 1, 2026, the project “Henze Digital (HenDi) – Hans Werner Henze’s Artistic Network” began its second phase. In the Henze Year 2026, marking the composer’s 100th birthday, the initial focus was on preparatory work for the new correspondence. While the first phase of the project, which ran through 2024, involved editing correspondence with Paul Sacher and with Hans Werner Henze’s librettists, the focus will now shift to fellow composers such as Luigi Nono, Benjamin Britten, Ruth Zechlin, and Paul Dessau. The edition will also include correspondence with patrons of New Music (Herbert Hübner, Wolfgang Steinecke) and with artists (Peter Pears, Ruth Berghaus) — thus highlighting the international context (England and Italy) as well as a divided Germany.
With the release of version 7.0.0, just a few months after its launch, we are delighted to present the first correspondence from the new phase of the project: the correspondence of Henze with a fellow honoree — the composer, harpsichordist, and organist Ruth Zechlin (1926–2007) — edited and provided with an introduction by Irmlind Capelle.
The HenDi-WebApp has been updated to get closer to the current version of the WeGA-WebApp for the Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Gesamtausgabe ; otherwise, the code has primarily undergone minor bug fixes and feature enhancements during the process of getting familiar with the code basis (see the release notes for more information).
