HenDi-WebApp Version 7.0.0
On 1 June 2026, after a one-and-a-half-year hiatus, the second phase of the project has started, and we are pleased to be able to publish one of the planned correspondences before the end of this year. For this purpose, the correspondence between Hans Werner Henze and Ruth Zechlin was chosen, as she too would have celebrated her hundredth birthday this year.
With this, we are launching our series of correspondences with fellow composers – other focal points of this new project phase include correspondence with representatives of cultural institutions and performers. The correspondence with Ruth Zechlin provides an impression of the cultural life of the GDR and the exchange between the two German states. Even at this early stage, the great importance of the German Academy of Arts (DAK) becomes apparent.
At the same time, with this release we are publishing two new letters belonging to the correspondence Henze | Weil | Jockisch dating from 1983, which have only now been identified in Henze’s estate at the Paul Sacher Foundation. We would like to thank Dr. Simon Obert for sharing this information and the Paul Sacher Foundation for granting permission to publish these letters.
After the end of project phase I in October 2024, the HenDi-WebApp first had to catch up to the current state of the WeGA-WebApp of the Carl-Maria-von-Weber Gesamtausgabe ; we thank Dennis Ried for the generous support provided in this regard. Otherwise, the focus was initially on fixing minor bugs discovered while getting familiar with the codebase.
The new features in the HenDi-WebApp include:
- In the correspondence Henze | Zechlin, missing letters are also listed for the first time in this edition; for this we were able to draw on functionality already available in the WeGA-WebApp.
- More entity register tabs are now available in the correspondence overview.
- The internal development tools have been optimised, as a result of which a number of previously unrecorded entities in already published correspondences came to light and could now be indexed.
- GND numbers from the newer, expanded GND areas are now processed correctly.
- Music notation examples are not yet displayed in all documents.
- The slider for restricting the period displayed in the letter overviews has not yet been brought into a reliably working state and therefore remains switched off.
- A bug already fixed internally in the WeGA-WebApp – when jumping between text and apparatus, small jittering movements accumulate with each jump – will only be incorporated into our code with the next minor release.
