HenDi-WebApp Version 3.0.0
In version 3.0.0 of Henze digital, we publish the correspondence between Hans Werner Henze and his librettists Wystan H. Auden and Chester Kallman.
The postal documents to and from Auden, Kallman, and both are merged in this correspondence, as the documents are closely related in content. Through the correspondence access, additional documents are also accessible, either enclosed with a letter or contextual to the correspondence but cannot be assigned to any specific letter as an enclosure.
The context menu (right sidebar in the letter view) has been expanded in the section “Correspondence Office”, as previously only the preceding or subsequent letter of a single author could be displayed. Since this is still an experimental extension, the functionality is currently rudimentary. We aim to improve this feature as soon as possible.
The primary language of this correspondence is English, unlike the two previously published correspondences. For this reason, the critical commentary has also been written in English. It should be noted that there may be a discrepancy in the Critical Apparatus between the surface language of the portal (selectable in German or English) and the comments formulated in the text (English), depending on whether the content is based on a formulated text or an automatically generated annotation. If you wish to read the Critical Apparatus in a consistent language, it is recommended to switch the portal to English.
In the correspondence Henze | Auden | Kallman, there are instances where additions in the original appear in the margins of the document. For handling these margin-notes, see the Editorial Guidelines .
The most notable new feature in the HenDi-WebApp is the direct access to the bibliography. The cited and mentioned bibliographic entries now have their own index and view. This database is under construction. Since the already published correspondences have not yet been comprehensively evaluated, the inventory is currently not complete.
The new features in the HenDi WebApp include:
- An index for the bibliography has been introduced. Additionally, a view for the bibliographic entries has been implemented.
- The view of telegrams has been expanded, but is still in development.
- The handling of margin-notes and letterheads has been improved.
- Minor display errors have been fixed.
- The context menu of the letters is not designed to handle collectives. The current extension is still in an early stage, so inaccuracies may occur.
- In Firefox browsers, icons may not load properly. This issue is temporary and caused by the font used.
- To generate a reading version, the quotation marks in the full texts have been replaced by encoding. Since this aspect is more complex than initially assumed, it may happen that not all displayed quotation marks exactly reflect the original. In case of doubt, please consult the encoding in the XML view. We are committed to resolving this ambiguity as quickly as possible.
- Musical examples are currently not displayed.
For further information, please refer to the Editorial Guidelines (ger).
