Michael Mann was the brother of Erika Mann, both children of Nobel Prize winner Thomas Mann. Auden married Erika in June 1935, not out of love (both were homosexuals), but to give her the possibility, thanks to the marriage, to escape from Germany, dominated by the Nazi regime.
